traffic safety officer michael sullivan speaks to local speeding concerns

September 25, 2019

Numerous residents from Bryn Mawr Avenue attended the meeting to hear updates by Officer Michael Sullivan on traffic calming policy. Residents voiced serious concern over long time speeding on Bryn Mawr Avenue in Penn Valley. They have experienced accidents trying to turn into their driveways from speeding cars, and they are concerned about school children as well as cyclists who use this road as a regular route. Residents requested edge line striping to narrow the road and slow traffic (similar to the striping seen on Hagys Ford Road). They also requested a bike lane as an alternative. Follow-up analysis by Officer Sullivan stated that edge line striping is not a possibility, but he did install a temporary digital speed display and a deer crossing sign. Residents would still like to see striping for cyclists and more permanent solutions to protect residents on this busy road. Residents from Woodbine Avenue and Hagys Ford Road (near Welsh Valley) expressed concerns over speeding and traffic congestion.
