Lower Merion Township Historic Preservation Planner, Greg Prichard presented newly discovered historic photos of the Penn Valley business district. 21 neighbors (including former Lower Merion Historical Society president, Ted Goldsborough) joined to see the photos of numerous vintage gas stations, cars, and charming street-facing storefronts that once graced Montgomery Avenue. Did you know that we used to have 2 grocery stores?

After the meeting, Ted also sent this document detailing construction in Penn Valley and Bala Cynwyd by the late Russell Byerley, former shop teacher at Lower Merion High School.

Wouldn’t we love to see improvements to our business district to make it more pedestrian and business-friendly in the future? We hope this wonderful presentation will kick-start some mindfulness and inspiration for new ideas!

Also, Greg shared additional links by email to "community salutes" done by WFIL (Channel 6) showing life in Lower Merion in the mid-1960's. Enjoy these in your free time.
